Greetings globe-trotters, we're back with a weekly update on Ascension², we're having a base game down!
Gameplay is starting to feel fun and exciting with a bright future ahead!
We'll let you in on the new gameplay features programmed in this project
Programmers:
- Added new states (ragdoll, death, cardinal aim) and improved previous states
- Death is imminent! The player can now die by getting crushed, falling to their death or by drowning in lava
- Explosive boxes have been added but not yet implemented in our main build, here are some explosive showcases though!
- A better, improved implementation of aiming has been used! Aiming freely when necessary but if you have quick reflexes, the D-pad can be used so aim up/left/right
- Backend the Object Pooling pattern has been improved and utilized
- Tetrominoes are falling from the sky and locking into one another perfectly, true climbing can begin
- Camera functionality follows the player's ascension better than before
Artists:
- Revisited the Colors and contrast of the Hell assets and fixed them up
- Added 3 modular blocks for the Tetris shapes for the Hell environment
- Added a second modular wall for the environment to break up the visible tiling
- Added terrain shape for the environment
- Added all the meshes to our personal Art Levels
- Imported all the previously made meshes into engine, seeing what they look like together and if shape/scale fits
- Made it so every model uses the same texture sheet so only 1 texture file with its color palette has to be used for every mesh in the environment, saving a lot of diskspace.
- Fixed a lot of in-engine issues and applied the first masked maps already except for translucency which remains to be figured out.
- Added 3 modular blocks for the tetris shapes, to be used in the Styx/Cavern environment
- Made a mockup version of the styx/cave environment according to a rough painting made in photoshop
- Started exploring character designs in photoshop
- Early drafts of the character 3d model is currently in-progress as we explore more ideas that came to mind like having the limbs and arms detached and move those around to see what that results in. (sort of like Rayman)
